Essential Functions:
o Conducts intake assessments through interview with patients and relative to gather case history.
o Plans and proved nursing care for patients.
o Makes nursing diagnosis of the medical and emotional status of patients and recommends treatment options.
o Consults with psychiatrists, psychologists and other mental health staff in designing appropriate treatment plans for clients.
o Initiates and conducts individual and group therapy sessions and education groups.
o Administers and notes reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications.
o Arranges further medical attention when necessary.
o Assists the client in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment.
o Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for a staff and patients.
o Tests for vital signs of pain and ensures treatment of pain.
o Prepares the Medication Administration Record (MAR) appropriately and completely following procedure.
o Interprets and complies with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures to include security requirements applicable to locked facility settings.
o Documents all patient information on medical charts and follows physicians written orders.
o Maintains patient confidentiality.
o Maintains accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results according to standard medical record keeping.
o Identifies normal and abnormal laboratory results and uses common current medical terminology appropriately in written documentation and verbal reports.
o Uses and cares for medical equipment used in a clinical and dispensary setting.
o Performs administrative assignments such as filing, answering phones, typing, maintaining, and completing statistical logs for the unit.
o May prepare written psychiatric evaluations of a client's condition and may recommend court ordered hospitalization.
o May train or assist in the training of nursing and mental health staff.
o May testify in court as to the client's mental and physical condition.
o Provides courteous, high quality services to patients and members of the public by personally responding to requests for service or making appropriate referral.

Required knowledge of basic patient care methods, procedures, and techniques.
The physical ability and perceptual acuity (e.
g.
, visual, and hearing) to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions.
Ability to express thoughts logically, in English, in both written and verbal form.
Ability to use computers and Windows software applications (preferred).
Licenses/Certifications:
Current RN License for the state in which the nurse practices.
