DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Adheres to the policies, procedures and accreditation standards as prescribed by IHSC\.
+ Provides direct patient care in a residential environment\.
+ Works within Scope of Practice and performs functions outlined in the Guidelines for the Dental Assistant\.
+ Treatment of persons throughout the life span \(childhood through geriatrics\)\.
+ Assures compliance with the Privacy Act in all activities\.
+ Performs record keeping functions in accordance with program policies\.
+ Maintains patient confidentiality and confidentiality of medical records\.
+ Attends general/medical staff meetings\.
+ Completes all training as required/assigned\.
+ Participates in quality improvement activities\.
+ Demonstrates proficiency with electronic health record as appropriate to position\.
+ Receives and schedules patients for treatment in dental clinic\.
+ Obtains and records information related to medical\-dental history of patient; routes patients for medical services when required\.
+ Maintains dental equipment in a clean and operative condition at all times\.
+ Performs optimum sterilization and/or disinfection procedures including but not limited to proper instrument preparation, processing and sterilization, autoclave operation, maintenance and monitoring procedures to include spore testing as per National Policy and Procedure, IHSC Dental Health Services Operations Manual and the Center for Disease Control \(CDC\) guidelines\.
+ Performs operatory clean\-up procedures including surface disinfection, waterline and suction treatment, proper sharps handling and disposal methods in accordance with CDC guidelines
+ Makes preparations for general dentistry and oral surgery performed in the dental clinic by preparing instruments, equipment and materials using aseptic technique and protective barriers\.
+ Assists in monitoring patient for signs of adverse reaction to treatment\.
+ Demonstrates understanding of dental materials used in the dental clinic and the ability to properly mix and manipulate these materials per manufacturer‚ s recommendations\.
+ Packages tissue specimens and routes to pathological laboratory per standard protocol\.
+ Changes and removes surgical dressings and removes sutures as directed\.
+ Applies the concepts of four\-handed dentistry to maintain a field of operation through the use of retraction, suction, irrigation, drying, placing and removing cotton rolls and shields, lighting, etc\., during the following dental procedures:
+ Oral Surgery
+ Restorative
+ Periodontal
+ Endodontic
+ Provides patient education per dentist for all types of post treatment care including specialized instructions\.
+ In the absence of the Dentist and/or Dental Hygienist, the Dental Assistant will provide support services to the medical clinic\. This may include, but is not limited to performing vital signs, triage and other duties within the scope of dental assistant practice\.
+ Documents within the Scope of Practice in the electronic health record\.
+ Prepares health history and consent forms for dental procedures\.
+ Operates and maintains dental X\-ray equipment to take intra\-and extra\-oral radiographs and maintains radiology certification and training per state requirement\.
+ Makes sure all precautions are being carried out so that the patients, as well as the dental staff, are receiving the smallest amount of radiation as possible\.
+ Maintains use of dosimetry badge in accordance with vendor recommendations while on duty\.
+ Responsible for documenting all x\-rays performed by the incumbent\. Files x\-ray reports and x\-ray jackets in the appropriate place\.
+ Maintains an up to date quality control system on the x\-ray machines and processor\.
+ Develops and finishes film when necessary; prepares, maintains and disposes of all processing chemicals per industry standards\.
+ Takes preliminary impressions, pours and trims models from impressions, constructs base plates and bite rims when necessary\.
+ Assist in maintaining daily/ monthly statistics and preparing reports as needed\.
+ Provides oral hygiene education\.
+ Triages dental patients and determine appropriate referral\.
+ Maintains all required logs/ inventories to include but not limited to biopsy log, sharps log, tool log, chemical inventory, post\-operative evaluation log, etc\.
+ Maintains tool inventory control at all times\.
+ Orders and stores dental supplies\.
+ Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned\.
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
+ Registered Dental Assistant by the State Board of Dental Examiners \(SBDE\), preferred\.
+ If not registered, must be a Certified Dental Assistant from a dental assisting program
+ X\-ray certification is required per state board regulations\.
+ Dental Assistant National Board \(DANB\) certification is preferred, but not required\.
+ Knowledge of Dental Assistant scope of practice \(e\.g\. treatment, prevention, and emergency care\)\.
+ Knowledge of American Dental Association and Center for Disease Control and Prevention standards regarding dental care and related issues\.
+ Ability to work in a multi\-cultural and multi\-language environment and be able to utilize interpretation services to complete assigned duties if not fluent in a language the resident understands\.
+ To perform four\-handed dentistry, must have good finger dexterity and arm\-hand steadiness\.
+ Information Technology \(IT\): Minimal requirement is a basic level of experience in working with office technology including Microsoft Office Suite applications and dental software programs\.
+ Must adhere to requirements for safety, infection control, quality assurance, maintenance of records of patients seen, statistical information gathering, etc\.
+ Must pass all facility competency testing initially and annually, thereafter\.
+ Ability to properly use equipment, materials and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures\.
+ Knowledge of regulations on the confidentiality of medical records \(HIPAA\)\.
+ Must pass initial Security Investigation by ICE prior to first day on duty and maintain clearance for the duration of time on the contract\.
+ Ability to communicate proficiently in English in order to develop rapport with detainees, coworkers and administration\.
+ Continuous BLS certification\.
+ May be expected to respond, detainee and oversee medical emergencies\.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications\.
+ Expected to demonstrate clinical competencies during orientation, annually and as needed to meet the requirements of the mission\.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
+ Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 10 minutes and maintain balance\.
+ Required to respond to any medical emergency within 4 minutes, where a fast walk or jog may be necessary to provide assistance\.
+ Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling\.
+ Must have the ability to assist sick, injured or aging residents or staff exiting the building during an emergency \(may require lifting, dragging, wheeling or carrying someone who weigh significantly more than self\)\.
+ Must be able to see, hear and smell with or without the use of aides if necessary \(exceptions on a case by case basis\)\.
+ Must easily alternate between kneeling and standing\.
+ Must be able to lift, push, or carry 30 pounds\.
+ Must perform the duties in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations\.
+ Must be capable of standing on hard surfaces \(cement floors\) for long periods of time\.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
